1. Describe the process you experienced to create this product (address planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing experiences).
Wow the process for this product wasn't difficult, only because I enjoyed the topic. Talking to my mom about her life and going through old pictures was actually rejuvenating and a great escape from my other school work. This process was lengthy though. Having to organize my thoughts and ideas and then put everything together was time consuming. As far as planning and drafting goes, since my narrative ad informational piece were already written, it was just a matter of revising. For the three other components it was a joy to do The song and letter allowed me to be more creative and I made sure I revised over and over again. I guess they say you're your own worst critic for a reason. Finding the outlet to produce this on was another struggle. I went from YouTube to PowerPoint to searching random video maker sites. I was constantly taking pictures form my phone and emailing myself. I didn't have a microphone attachment so I would record my narration on my phone as well and send that too. I had so many tabs and windows open, my computer was probably begging for a break. All in all this project pushed me. When I finally finished I told my parents I felt like a director who just finished a film. I had locked myself away to make sure I stayed focused plus I dint want anyone hearing my project till It was complete. The best part about my process was the first showing to my mom. I watched her eyes fill with water as she pated them. When it go to the song I wrote and sung she couldn't hold it in she was full on in tears I hugged her and thanked her. How funny I created something for her and was still thanking her. I would also like to thank you Dr. Kissel, for without you this project would have not been done.
2. What have you learned about yourself as a writer from completing this product?
I have learned that when it comes to writing informational pieces I do struggle slightly. I m one who likes to incorporate feelings and etc., while informational just call for facts. It like children who don't like reading non-fiction literature. The fictional one seem so more exciting. I just like to be able to express my creativity and I felt as though it was stifled there. This is something I plan to work on for myself personally and as a future educator. On the brighter side I did however find my love for writing again. I noticed when it came to the letter and song I got this excitement and I couldn't wait to write and record them.
3. What have you learned as a future writing teacher from completing this product?
I think what I learned about myself as a writer and what I learned as a writing teacher go hand in hand. I feel like when we are asked to reflect, we are supposed to think ahead to our future careers; so just as I stated above I need to work on informational pieces. How can I teach something that I myself don't even work well with. It's all about personal development being the best me I can be for my future pupils. When we get to creative writing I'd knock it out the park though. lol
