Observation Reflection
I observed many things in this classroom. Some examples include classroom setup, instructional lesson, as well as Students while they worked and what they worked on. The classroom small and a little bit crowded but surprisingly a very good use of space. When walking in you are enthused by color and positive posters. There is a carpeted area that is great for genre introductions and other whole class lessons. There Is a library with much variety although the way it was all set up, some books were too high for the students to reach. There is a U table that also seconds as a teachers desk, conference table, small group circle, and a work turn in station. In the front of the classroom is a long white board and two maps of the world and the country. In the back right corner is a computer station and to the right of that is a section for the children's belongings. The technology is of course not of the same you'd see at the public schools nowadays. There was no smart board but they had projectors that they connected they're laptops to and a document camera that was shared amongst the four third grade teachers. The setup of the classroom was functional but crowded. I would have assumed a lot of problems with the flow of the class due to the traffic when the kids get up form their grouped tables and transition to the carpet. Shocking, It wasn't too bad. They kids are used to their classroom and know how to get around with out chaos.
I hope that if I'm placed at a school with not as much space, that I too can be just as creative and useful with my space. My teacher made the classroom feel comfortable and workable. These are things I observed and will take to my own classroom someday.
